Presentation “Overview of American Red
Cross Blood Services and It’s Quality Program”
Each
day in our country, approximately 39,000 units of blood are required in
hospitals and emergency room facilities for patients with cancer and other
diseases, for organ transplant recipients, and to help save the lives of
accident victims. The American Red Cross
blood program provides about half of this blood for patients in need. Since 1948 the Red Cross has worked to
ensure that blood is available for any patient. What role does Quality play in the mission of Red Cross Blood
Services?
BIO: Mary Schumacher has been
in the quality field for over 10 years with experience both in the hospital
transfusion service and blood donor center.
She has also worked in the clinical laboratory profession for over 20
years. She is currently a Regional
Quality Manager for the American Red Cross, Central Ohio Blood Services
